Slater,
Over 2 million people have died defending the United States Constitution. If you don't like people using their rights guaranteed under the 1st admendment then pack you crap and get out! Go to North Korea where the governmemt is never critisied. I spent 8 years in the military during Viet Nam and I'll say any damn thing I please.

Alex,

What's up? Cool meeting you and hanging out at ASE. Hit me up when you're back in town.

To comment on the post and others who may negatively comment:
I can agree with Alex being that I myself lived overseas in Japan for 10 years, and experienced first hand how US policies lead to the change of positive opinions that other countries think about the average American citizen.

What is interesting about Americans is that they can't separate distaste for government from distaste for country. They seem to think that they are one and the same.

This is not often the case with lots of other countries who are older, and have experienced the rise of tyranny and have a genuine distrust for their governments stronghold for power.

Pride has killed many countries, and if American's arent careful, will do the same here.

First of all, the U.S. was never England's to take. It was populated, and England decimated those people to take what wasn't theirs to take. So, for any of us to claim we are "proud to American" is in effect, claiming to be proud to wipe out other human beings. As far as the fear of acknowledging you're an American while abroad - it IS wise to be fearful! As for the right-winger advising you to leave the country and defending the Republicans - he needs to be educated. The Republicans have held the office more so in the past 32 years than the Democrats, so yes, the Republicans are at fault for the current reputation of the U.S. Bush should be held accountable for the current standing of the U.S. as he had a choice to change things for the better, but he chose to sell America to the highest bidder and fight a war on false pretenses. Our country has taken a nose-dive under his policies the past 8 years! Anyone who doesn't see that is blind. Be thankful you can speak Russian. I'll stay in the U.S. because I can't speak another language...and soon, I'll be hiding in the nearest cave because I won't be able to communicate with "Americans" that only speak Spanish.
