5 Reasons Alexander Tsatkin is Officially Online

Finally after sitting on “my name” domain for over four months I decided it was time to build out a personal website. Why did I decide that this is the right time?

Well after years of SEO, blogging, consulting, and working in marketing I have realized the most important thing you can do is build a brand. Contrary to what many people think, your name is a brand. Everywhere you go, you have the capacity to shape and sculpt how people view and most importantly value your name, from relationships to business.

Brands are mental shortcuts that help people form ideas. I decided it was time to start to brand my name and this blog is part of the process. Here are my top 5 reasons for why i decided to start a personal blog.

5. Repository for Ideas -I have notebooks and sticky notes full of ideas I have been working on. This has been far from an efficient form of keeping track of thoughts. A blog is a great way to track your thoughts for referencing in the future.

4. Link to Good Resources – Once in a while I find something that is valuable, but have a hard time sharing it with others. As we know Google sucks for discovering new things, especially things that are not search engine friendly, so hopefully with this site I will be able to help people find valuable resources as I discover them.

3. Educate Readers – Blogs are a great way to learn new subject matter. Lately people have been coming to me with questions from SEO basics to how to start a blog. I decided rather than explaining the same thing over and over again, I can send people to this site.

2. Online Reputation Management – I had a first hand experience with how out of hand bad reputation online can get. A simple quote in a magazine turned into a nightmare from forums, to blogs, to online harassment. It took some time, but I was able to use SEO to clean up search results and retain my good name. This blog is an extenuation of the process.

UPDATE: I am currently working on putting together a book on how to manage your name online from people in the dating scene to those looking for jobs. Lets face it most people get Googled before going on dates or getting hired.

1. Time Capsule Effect- In 7th grade my teacher had the class do an exercise that I will remember forever. Some of you may have done this too. Basically we wrote a letter to ourselves into the future. We wrote down our hobbies, interests, our dreams, and who we wanted to be when we grew up. The teacher would wait till senior year of high school to send the letter. Imagine my reaction when I received that letter, I had completely forgot about the exercise, never mind what I wrote. I want to experience that again, to look back and have a way to pierce into my life at that particular point.
Also, that letter has been my guiding light, and is the reason for most of my actions. Stay true, never sell out, and follow your heart.
